As we are individually getting back to our regular routines, Barrie Community of Christ is still experimenting and trying out new things! We wanted to stay connected and we are committing to keep a record of where we’ve been and where we are heading. We are start up an electronic newsletter at the start of every week to help build community!
What’s the Big NEWS?
We are totally energized to start holding worship every Sunday! Once I asked an experienced church planter for some advice and the man advised me to do less better! He didn’t tell me what to do, but instead said we should pick one thing and do it awesome! We’ve prayed and prayed about what that one thing was until we understood that we just need to Worship!
2nd Sundays of the month are Serve + Celebrate Sundays. This Sunday we walked the neighbourhood to collect up trash from lawns, parks and schoolyards. A man stopped us and thanked us for what we were doing and we received some smiles from curious neighbours. The group shared an Agape meal (A simple and basic supper of love) and then brought personal elements of worship together in celebration at the Swain’s home. We are looking for other simple Community Service Projects to help make a difference in our neighbourhood. If you know of someone who could benefit from our help, please contact Matthew email@example.com
Next Sunday is Steam! Steam is simply a Christian Coffeehouse with live music and meaningful talk. I love Steam because it is a welcoming evening open to all to celebrate being a Christian. No matter if you are seeker, a devoted church goer, or just looking for a good time, we guarantee that you’ll leave Steam feeling good! The theme for Sunday is On the Right Track and we invite you to come out & see! The Coffeehouse is open from 7 pm until 9 hosted at TLC Café and Bistro on 49 Maple Avenue (Downtown Barrie).
Barrie Community of Christ is hosting a Good $ense Budgeting Workshop on Saturday September 24th. This is a super way to help to managing your money and become better stewards of your resources. The workshop is all day (9am to 5pm) with lunch/snacks provided. We are only asking $15 per person/couple for the workbook, but space is limited. Please invite your spouse or friends and register before next Thursday (September 22). Call (705)797-0481 to RSVP or for more information.
Last Thursday, a wonderful group of volunteers came together to start planning a Young PeaceMakers Club. We decided that our focus needed to be on promoting peace in the community by offering a club open to all children. We decided on a 10-week cycle which we hope to kick-off in October. The YPC will be for children between 6 and 12 years old and we want to hold it in North Barrie nearby the location of the old church. Plus we choose to change the day to Wednesday (5 pm to 7 pm) because this day is best for the children already associated with Barrie Community of Christ. We are waiting on our group to find a new location available on this day and time before we make an announcement. We still are looking for people who are interested to help young children develop peacemaking skills. If you can volunteer in anyway then please consider making a commitment for our first cycle!
Remember … Blessed are the Peacemakers! (Matthew 5:9)
The last thing to keep in mind is Canada East Mission of Community of Christ has their Mission Center Conference on October 15th in Guelph. This is a day-long event and a great chance to meet new friends and represent our emerging congregation. If you are interested in volunteering as a delegate, please contact Matthew before the end of this month. Please see the attached brochure for more information.
